Dr. Md. Mahbub Hasan, a Commonwealth Scholar, was born and raised in a small village near the Brahmaputra River in Mymensingh. His educational journey began in his village, where he completed his primary schooling before relocating to Mymensingh City to enrol at Shaheed Syed Nazrul Islam College for higher secondary education. He completed undergraduate and master’s degrees in Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology with distinction at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST), Sylhet-3114. In 2013, Dr. Hasan embarked on his career path by joining Incepta Pharmaceuticals Ltd as an R&D Officer. His role involved significant contributions to Biosimilar production, particularly in the realm of Insulin Glargine, where he showcased exceptional skills in mass spectrometry and computational biology. Throughout his tenure in the industry, Dr. Hasan underwent extensive training in liquid chromatography, biotherapeutics production, and mass spectrometry under the mentorship of global leaders such as AB Sciex and GE Healthcare. Transitioning to academia in 2015, Dr. Hasan became a Lecturer at the University of Chittagong’s Department of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology. Despite facing resource constraints, he collaborated with peers to address pressing public health concerns like Chikungunya and Thalassemia on a national scale. Inspired by this experience, he co-founded the research group dBme in Chittagong. Continuing his academic pursuits, Dr. Hasan pursued a PhD in cancer drug discovery at King’s College London. His research efforts yielded groundbreaking advancements in the development of anticancer payloads for Antibody-Drug Conjugates (ADCs). With hands-on expertise spanning Synthetic Chemistry, fluorescence-quenching assays, Cell Culture, and Cancer Biology, the lead compounds from his doctoral research are now patented. And readily prepared for commercialization, marking a significant milestone in further advancing cancer treatment.
